Life

Kurt Wahl was the son of Julius Wahl (* 1879 in Ulm ; † 1955 in Krefeld ) and Eugénie Gabriele Wahl, née Andt (* 1881 in Wanzenau , † mid-1958 in Krefeld). At the age of 17, he followed the family tradition as an actor in the fourth generation and made his stage debut in Münster as a “young lover”. This was followed by stage appearances in Kaiserslautern , Breslau , Basel and Flensburg , before he came to the Landestheater Coburg as an actor and director in 1937.

In 1926 he had married the actress Heimgard Elisabeth Henriette Müller (1905–1967) in Bad Kreuznach . The marriage resulted in a daughter (* 1927). In 1938 the family moved to Coburg. The marriage was divorced in August 1942. A few weeks later, Wahl married the actress Irene Neubauer (1913–2006) in Coburg . The two later had a daughter (* 1949).

In 1944 the Landestheater Coburg was closed due to the Second World War ; Wahl was used for military service. After his release from captivity, he returned to the State Theater, but was then subject to the occupational ban of the victorious powers. In 1950 he became head of the new artistic management office and continued to work as an actor. After the death of Oskar Grambs in 1951, he took over his business as administrative director. From then on he took care of the coordination of artistic, technical and economic matters. One of his great achievements was the establishment of a shuttle service within a radius of up to 100 km from Coburg, in order to be able to compensate for the loss of theater guests from the southern Thuringian region after the establishment of the inner German border . Wahl was retired at the end of 1968. Overall, he worked at the Landestheater Coburg for a period of 31 years.
