Cuscuta sandwichiana is a species of the genus silk ( Cuscuta ) in the family of wind plants (Convolvulaceae).

description

Cuscuta sandwichiana is a parasitic , herbaceous plant . The stems are 0.2-0.5 mm thick and yellow-orange.

The panicle-like inflorescences consist of three to seven (rarely up to eleven) loosely grouped, stalked flowers . The flower stalks have a length of 2 to 5 mm. At the base of a group of flowers there is a bract , at the base of the flower stalks it is usually missing. It is membranous, narrowly triangular, 1 to 1.6 mm long and 0.7 to 1 mm wide. The margins are whole, the point is pointed.

The flowers are usually five-fold, rarely four-fold. They are 3 to 4 (rarely up to 5) mm long and fleshy. They are colored white and turn yellow-brown when drying. They are ovate to elongated. Papillae are not formed. In the corolla , sometimes in the cup , in the ovary and in the capsule are laticifers visible. They stand individually or in rows. The calyx is yellow-brown, neither reticulate nor shiny. It is cup-shaped, almost as long as the corolla tube. The petals stand free from each other for 1/2 to 1/3 of the length. The corolla lobes are triangular-ovoid, keeled in some flowers, they do not overlap at the base. The margin is entire, the tip blunt to almost pointed. The crown is stable, the corolla-tube is bell-shaped, not sack-shaped and 2 to 3 mm long. The corolla lobes stand upright to slightly protruding. They are 0.8 to 1.5 mm long and ovoid-triangular, the edge is entire, the tip is blunt to almost pointed.

The stamens are usually not over the crown and shorter than the corolla lobes. The anthers are broadly elliptical and 0.5 to 0.7 × 0.4 to 0.5 mm in size. The stamens are 0.2 to 0.7 mm long. The pollen grains have a size of 22 to 27.5 µm. There are no scales between the stamens or they are strongly reduced, bilobed, cut off or triangular, with a few teeth at the ends.

The two styles are equally strong, about 0.5 to 1.1 mm long and thus about as long as the ovary . The scars are head-shaped and spherical.

The fruits are non-popping to irregularly popping capsules. They are spherical to indented spherical shape, measure 2.5 to 3.5 × 3.3 to 4 mm. They are thickened around the aperture surrounding the stylus, but not raised. They are not translucent, the faded crown surrounds the capsule. Each capsule usually contains two seeds , these are angled, elliptical to broadly elliptical and 1.1 to 2 × 1 to 1.7 mm in size. The cells of the seed coat are pitted / papilose, measuring 35 to 50 µm in diameter. Epicuticular wax is not formed. The hilum is almost at the end, is round and measures 0.3 to 0.45 mm in diameter.

Occurrence

The species occurs in Hawaii .
