Cy Marshall
Cyrus "Cy" Marshall (born April 17, 1902 in Kansas City , Missouri , † December 20, 1974 in Volusia , Florida ) was an American racing driver .
Career
Marshall first competed in the Indianapolis 500 in 1928 when he replaced Earl DeVore at the wheel for 58 laps on laps 91-148. In 1930 he was at the start of the race with a Duesenberg . In the 29th lap he had a serious accident. He was seriously injured, his fellow mechanic and brother Paul Marshall died in the accident. It wasn't until 1947 that he started again in Indianapolis. In an Alfa Romeo he achieved his best result with 8th place. In 1950 he was unable to qualify for the race. Marshall drove the AAA National Series races exclusively in Indianapolis. His 17-year break between the 1930s and 1947 starts, along with that of Rollie Free during the same period, is the longest in the history of the race.
