Czesław "Jesse" Panek (born July 13, 1954 in Bydgoszcz ; † August 15, 2016 ) was a Polish ice hockey player and coach who played for the Düsseldorfer EG and BSC Prussia in the national ice hockey league .

Career

Panek began his career in the Polish Ekstraliga with Polonia Bydgoszcz and Stoczniowiec Gdańsk , where the trained defender played for several years. After he narrowly missed the leap into the selection squad for the World Cup in his Polish homeland in the same year, he took part with the Polish national team in the B-World Championships in 1980 and 1981 in Austria and Italy . Panek made a total of 59 international matches for Poland.

In the summer of 1981, the then 27-year-old signed a contract with the Düsseldorfer EG. There he stayed only two seasons and joined the newly founded BSC Prussia for the 1983/84 season . Here Panek developed into one of the top performers and audience favorites. In his first game for BSC, Panek scored a goal against Duisburger SC from the center line. In his first season for the Prussians, he scored 39 points in 42 games. In 1987 he was promoted to the 1st Bundesliga with the Prussians after several failed attempts . He was also one of the defenders with the highest points in the team: In 335 games for Berlin, Panek scored a total of 61 goals and had 118 first assists and 495 penalty minutes. After the end of the 1990/91 season , he ended his ice hockey career and from then on looked after the first team of the BSC Prussia as an assistant coach. Furthermore, he took over the position of coach of the juniors, with whom he was twice German champion.

After further engagements in Düsseldorf and Berlin , Panek worked twice for the Italian first division club HC Bozen . In the 1997/98 season he became Italian champions with the South Tyroleans . He later returned to the DEG Metro Stars, where he acted as the coach of the second team. During this time he led the second representation of the Düsseldorfer EG from the Landesliga-NRW to the Regionalliga-NRW. Finally, in 2007 the management of the EHC Dortmund tried to get the then 53-year-old and was able to convince him of a commitment to the elks. He then moved to the Ruhr metropolis with his son Sascha Panek. Panek immediately became regional league champion 2007 with the EHC and only narrowly missed promotion to the top division in the penalty shoot-out against the Herner EV 2007 . In November 2008, the management of the Elche separated from Jesse Panek.

In 2009 Panek was the national coach of the national inline hockey team (DRIV) . In November 2009 he took over the coaching position of Füchse Duisburg , which he held until the end of the 2009/10 season. Other coaching stations were the Ratinger Ice Aliens (2010/11), the Kassel Huskies (2012-2015; Oberliga and Schüler-Bundesliga) and most recently FASS Berlin . Panek died in August 2016 at the age of 62 after a serious illness.
