Dörte Andres

Dörte Andres (* 1952 in Rheine ) is a German interpreter . She works and teaches at the Faculty of Translation, Linguistics and Cultural Studies (FTSK) at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz in Germersheim . Her main research interests include a. Interpreting in crisis areas , interpreting history (focus on National Socialism ) and interpreting didactics .

Live and act

Dörte Andres was born in Rheine in 1952 . From 1971 to 1976 she studied interpreting at the Saarland University in Saarbrücken . 1976–1984 she worked as a qualified interpreter for French and English at the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs in Bonn , and from 1986 to 2002 as a freelance conference interpreter for the courts of the state of Baden-Württemberg .

1998–2000 she did her doctorate on Consecutive Interpreting and Notation - Empirical Investigation of Mental Processes in Beginners in Interpreter Training and Professional Interpreters at the University of Vienna . In 2002 she received the Research Promotion Prize of the Association of Friends of the University of Mainz for her dissertation. In 2007 she completed her habilitation on the subject of interpreters as literary figures .

Since 1986 she has been teaching at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz in the Department of Translation, Linguistics and Cultural Studies. In 2008 she received the teaching award of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate for the recognition of outstanding achievements in teaching and in 2010 the teaching award of the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. Also in 2010 she was appointed university professor for life in interpreting .

From 2004 to 2013 she was editor of the interpreting series InterPartes - Studies on Interpreting Science (until 2012 Meidenbauer-Verlag, today Peter Lang Verlag ). Since 2013 she has been co-editor of Transkulturalität - Translation - Transfer at Verlag Frank & Timme. In addition, since 2010 she has been a member of the scientific advisory board of the Zeitschriften Moderne Sprachen and The Interpreters' Newsletter .
