Dünstekoven is a small village in the municipality of Swisttal in the Rhein-Sieg district in the south-west of North Rhine-Westphalia . On January 2, 2019, it had 541 residents.

geography

The village is located in the Voreifel on the edge of the Kottenforstes . The Eiserner Mann ( Iron Man) branches are nearby . Dünstekoven's rural location without any industry or commercial areas and the nonetheless good local supply in the neighboring village of Heimerzheim offers hikers and cyclists ideal conditions, especially in the nearby Swistbach meadows . The immediate vicinity of Dünstekoven is also characterized by the flat Zülpicher Börde and the hilly foothills .

The transport connections to the surrounding cities of Rheinbach , Euskirchen , Bornheim and Brühl , but also Bonn (via B 56 ), Cologne and Koblenz (both via A 61 ) are good. Local public transport is via the Rhein-Sieg transport association (using line 845).

In the gravel quarry in the northeast of Dünstekoven, which has been closed since 1980, there is now a nature reserve and a residence for observation, which is managed by the Naturschutzbund Deutschland .

history

As a district of Heimerzheim, Dünstekoven did not have its own coat of arms until it was incorporated into the newly created community of Swisttal on August 1, 1969 (two attempts in the 1950s to achieve municipal independence were unsuccessful). The coat of arms now shown is based on the seal of a von Dinstekouen family who lived there around 1338 .

The Dunstekovener Stift Schillingscapellen should also be mentioned as the place of origin of a Romanesque representation of the Rosa mystica in Sankt Katharina zu Buschhoven . There are regular pilgrimages from the former monastery to Buschhoven .

Club life

For the carnival bustle in the village which is Karnevalsgesellschaft bond of friendship Dünstekoven 1951 e. V. responsible. With its carnival call “ Helau ”, Dünstekoven differs from the surrounding villages in the Cologne area, where “ Alaaf ” is called. The reason for this distinction has not yet been clearly clarified. The SV Rot-Weiß Dünstekoven e. V. represents the town in football and was first founded in 1946. First, the sports club's games were played in the neighboring town of Heimerzheim and on a field near Vershoven . In 1948, however, the sports club was dissolved again due to a lack of money and material. The successful re-establishment took place on July 3, 1960. Since September 7, 1963, the sports club has had its own sports field, which, in addition to the personal contribution of many club members, was financed with the help of the state, district and municipality. In 2015 the sports field was equipped with natural grass.
