history

455 407 + intermediate car retired in 1984 at the Munich-Freimann repair shop

The ET 55 was created in 1939 as a variant of the ET 25 for mountain routes in Silesia . It differed from the ET 25 in terms of its gear ratio, so that the maximum speed was lower and the starting tractive effort was higher. The brake and the wheel diameter have also been changed.

The eight railcars were used since a major conversion program in 1964 in the combination of railcar ET 55.0 + intermediate car ES 55 + railcar ET 55.4, from 1968 455.0 + 855.0 + 455.4. They were always at home in Baden-Württemberg and were used in suburban traffic in Stuttgart , among other things .

Unit 07 was retired on November 30, 1983, the other seven units followed on July 31, 1984. No copy has been preserved, the series was completely scrapped.
