The DR 99 211 locomotive is a meter-gauge tank locomotive that was built for the Wangerooger Inselbahn on the North Sea island of Wangerooge .

history

A more powerful locomotive was required for use with four-axle passenger cars, which had been purchased due to the increasing pool traffic. In July 1929, locomotive 99 211 was delivered by Henschel. After the operation was switched to diesel locomotives in 1958, it remained as a reserve vehicle until it was retired on August 18, 1960.

The locomotive has been parked as a memorial at the old lighthouse at Wangerooge station since July 21, 1968 .

technology

The locomotive was designed as a wet steam locomotive. The boiler was two-section and had 90 heating tubes. The drive acted on the third axis, a Heusinger control was used. The middle axle was designed without flanges for better cornering.

The inner frame of the locomotive was also used as a water tank. The vehicle could hold 0.6 tons of coal in a container on the side of the heater next to the boiler and 1.8 cubic meters of water in the frame and in the side water tanks. The locomotive only got electrical lighting in 1953.
