Daša Drndić
Daša Drndić (born August 10, 1946 in Zagreb , Yugoslavia ; died June 5, 2018 in Rijeka ) was a Croatian writer .
Life
Daša Drndić studied English language and literature at the Philological Faculty of the University of Belgrade . As a Fulbright Fellow, she attended Southern Illinois University , where she completed postgraduate studies in theater and communication. She received her doctorate from the University of Rijeka , taught for several years at universities in Canada and the USA and most recently taught English literature at the University of Rijeka. She has published numerous books, short stories and radio plays.
Her novel Sunshine has been translated into more than ten languages and was her first book to appear in German. The German translation by Brigitte Döbert and Blanka Stipetić was shortlisted for the Berlin International Literature Prize of the House of World Cultures in 2015 .
Celia Hawkesworth's English translation of her novel Belladonna was posthumously awarded the Warwick Prize for Women in Translation .
Daša Drndić was a signatory of the declaration published in 2017 on the common language of Croats , Serbs , Bosniaks and Montenegrins .
