from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Daddy Freddy (born September 3, 1965 in Kingston , Jamaica as Frederic Nelson ) is a Jamaican musician who is considered one of the founders of the raggamuffin .

biography

Daddy Freddy grew up in Trenchtown in the neighborhood of Jacob Miller and Ranking Joe . The latter taught him the basics of a DJ . After first appearances with his uncle, he initially joined Lt. Stitchie and later Sugar Minott . The gigs with Minott's Youthman Promotion Sound System made him known on the island, whereupon a total of six top ten singles were decoupled from his first album Body Lasher .

Freddy moved to England in the 1980s , signed with the Music Of Life label and produced the album Ragamuffin Hip-Hop with Asher D. , which was a fusion of dancehall , reggae and hip-hop . The novel style became more popular in the UK in the late 1980s.

The 1992 album Raggamuffin Soldier was also successful in the USA. This gave Daddy Freddy the chance to work with musicians like Cypress Hill , Dr. Dre , Frankie Paul , Sly & Robbie , David Morales and Beats International . From The Prodigy to Salt'N'Pepa to KRS One , numerous acts also used his voice.

Due to his success and the associated tour stress, Freddy needed a creative break and wanted to devote more time to his family. He therefore returned to Jamaica, where he recorded dancehall material. After a while he moved back to England, where in 2000 his new collaboration with The Rootsman resulted in the album Old School - New School and a UK comeback.

As the fastest rapper in the world, he was temporarily in the Guinness Book of Records .
