Dagfinn Vårvik

Dagfinn Vårvik (born June 8, 1924 in Leinstrand , Trondheim ; † March 25, 2018 ) was a Norwegian journalist and politician of the Senterpartiet , who was Norway's foreign minister from 1972 to 1973 and chairman of the Senterpartiet between 1973 and 1977.

Life

Vårvik, the son of a farmer , began to study economics after attending school in 1944 , which he completed in 1951. He then became in 1952 Secretary of the faction of the former Agrarian Party ( Bondepartiet ) located 1959 Center Party ( Senterpartiet renamed), the Storting and remained in this position until 1961. Following Vårvik was that the Storting for 1961-1965 Alternate member of Akershus was , Employee at Nations , the party newspaper of the Senterpartiet, before he was editor-in-chief of this newspaper between 1963 and 1988 and also held this position during his government offices.

On August 28, 1963 he was appointed by Prime Minister John Lyng as Minister of Finance in his civil government , which consisted of members of the Høyre , Kristelig Folkeparti , Venstre and the Senterpartiet. Lyng's minority government replaced the third government of Prime Minister Einar Gerhardsen before Gerhardsen became Prime Minister again on September 25, 1963.

After his party friend Per Borten became Prime Minister on September 12, 1965, he appointed him Minister for Wages and Prices in his coalition government, which was in office until March 17, 1971 . In addition, he became deputy chairman of the Senterpartiet in 1967.

On October 18, 1972 he was appointed Foreign Minister in the bourgeois minority government of Prime Minister Lars Korvald . Shortly before he took office, the referendum on joining the European Economic Community (EEC) took place on September 25, 1972. He held the post of Foreign Minister until the end of Korvald's tenure on October 16, 1973.

In 1973 he was elected chairman of the Senterpartiet. He became the successor to John Austrheim and retained this position until he was replaced by Gunnar Stålsett in 1977.
