Dali ( Chinese 大里 區 , Pinyin Dàlǐ Qū , W.-G. Ta-li Chü ) is a district of the government-direct city of Taichung in the west of the Republic of China on Taiwan .
Dali is located immediately south of the core city of Taichung in the southeast of the Taichung Basin on the Dali River . There are some hills to the east of the otherwise flat district.
During the Qing Dynasty , Dali was a center of Chinese immigrants and one of the largest cities in the region. Later the place benefited mainly from its proximity to the metropolis of Taichung. From 1993 to 2010 Dali had the status of a city (市, Shì ) in Taichung County . On December 25, 2010, the entire county, whose largest city was Dali, was incorporated into Taichung City. Since then, Dali has had the status of a city district.
