Tanzi ( Chinese 潭子 區 / 潭子 区 , Pinyin Tánzǐ Qū ) is a district ( 區 , Qū ) of Taichung City in Taiwan , Republic of China .
location
Tanzi is located immediately to the north of the historic core city (in the borders before 2010) of Taichung. The neighboring districts are Beitun in the south, Daya in the west and Shengang and Fengyuan in the north . The district belongs to a certain extent to the "bacon belt" of downtown Taichung and has recently been characterized by rapid urbanization and population growth. Tanzi's population has more than doubled since the early 1980s.
history
An earlier name of Tanzi is Tanziqian ( 潭子 墘 ). During the Japanese colonial rule (1895-1945) it became the village of Tanzi ( 潭子 庄 , Tánzi zhuāng ) in 1920 . The original inhabitants of the area were members of the indigenous Taiwanese people ( Pingpu ), the Pazeh . From the end of the reign of Kangxi (ruled 1661–1722), the immigration of Han Chinese from mainland China began. The immigrants gradually displaced or assimilated the autochthonous population. After the end of Japanese rule, Taiwan became part of the Republic of China and Tanzi was reorganized into a rural community ( 鄉 , Xiāng ) in Taichung County ( 潭子 鄉 , Tánzi xiāng ). On December 25, 2010, the district was completely incorporated into the city of Taichung and all district communities, including Tanzi, received the status of urban districts ( 區 , Qū ).
