Career

society

Macaluso began his professional career in 1997 with the Uruguayan second division club Central Español FC . There he played 20 games in which he scored three goals. In January 1999 he joined the Racing Club de Montevideo . Here he played 21 games (1 goal) before moving to the Italian second division club Sampdoria Genoa in the same year . But not a single game played there. In 2000 he was obliged by the Italian third division club Catania Calcio . But it was only used seven times. Therefore, he returned in January 2001 to Club Atlético Bella Vista , in whose ranks he was until the end of the following year. At the beginning of 2003 he moved to Apertura to his old club Central Español, which was now promoted to the first division. There he only played 5 games. After a stopover from 2003 to 2004 at the Guatemalan club Cobán Imperial , he moved back to the second Italian league in 2004, to SSC Venice . For the first time he managed to work his way up to become a regular at a European club, playing 31 games for the SSC. Nevertheless, he left the club at the end of the season in the direction of the SS Sambenedettese Calcio in the third division. There he played 20 games in the coming 2005/06 season, and for the first time in Europe he also scored a goal. When the French first division club AS Nancy noticed him in 2006 , he said yes. For Nancy, he played a total of 68 league games. 59 games (four goals) were first division appearances, the remaining games he completed for the reserve. In 2010 Damián Macaluso signed a three-year contract with the Mexican second division CD Veracruz , but after the Clausura in 2011 and 27 completed games (two goals) on loan, he moved to Argentina for one season at Gimnasia y Esgrima de La Plata . There he made his debut in the league in the 1: 2 home defeat against Atlanta on October 1, 2011. In total, he was used in 23 games (one goal). On June 29, 2012, Peñarol confirmed Macaluso's commitment for the following season. In the 2012/13 season he ran 18 times for the Aurinegros and scored one goal. He was also used twice in the Copa Libertadores (no goal). At the end of the season he won the championship with Peñarol. In the Copa Sudamericana 2013 he was used in both matches against Cobreloa , when the Montevideans were eliminated in the first round of the competition, he played four times in the Copa Libertadores 2014 . In the 2013/14 season he played 20 games (two goals). In the 2014/15 season he was on the pitch in ten league games (one goal). He also played four games (one goal) in the 2014 Copa Sudamericana . In July 2015 he moved to the first division promoted Liverpool Montevideo, trained by Juan Verzeri . In the 2015/16 season he played 24 top division games (no goal) there. In July 2016, he joined Juventud . At the club from Las Piedras he was used in 14 first division games (no goal) in the 2016 season. In the following season he ran in another 17 first division games (two goals). On July 23, 2017, the now 37-year-old Macaluso left the club with immediate effect, although he still had a one-and-a-half year contract. He justified this step with the sometimes amateurish conditions in the club. The club's arrears played less of a role in its decision than the way in which the players were treated. For example, you had to shower with cold water three times a week. But he basically wants to continue his active career.

National team

In 1999 Macaluso took part with the Uruguayan U-20 selection both at the U-20 South American Championship in Argentina and at the Junior World Cup in Nigeria , where they finished second and fourth respectively. During the tournament in Argentina he was used by coach Víctor Púa six times (no goal).
