Damien Lamont Wilkins (born January 19, 1980 in Washington , North Carolina ) is an American basketball player who is currently under contract with the Indiana Pacers in the NBA . He is the son of former NBA player Gerald Wilkins .
Career
Wilkins began his college career at North Carolina State University , where he played from 1999 to 2001. He has received a lot of praise in North Carolina, especially off the field. He was described as "unassuming, considerate, and gentle" and praised for his disciplined behavior, among other things in training. He quickly became an important player in Georgia, scoring 12.6 points in about 35 minutes per game in his last college season, which is an improvement on last season. He did not participate in the subsequent draft, but was accepted as a free agent by the Seattle SuperSonics during the 2004 season . He stayed there for five years, including when he moved to Oklahoma City . In his best season there, the 2007/08 season , he had an average of 9.4 points in 24.3 minutes per game.
On July 27, 2009, he was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for Etan Thomas with Chucky Atkins . He got a little more playing time again and averaged 5.6 points per game. After a season in Minnesota, he was signed on December 3, 2010 by the Atlanta Hawks to replace the then injured Joe Johnson . On January 28, he was then signed for the rest of the season.
On December 10, 2011, the Detroit Pistons announced his move to Detroit. In 2012, Wilkins joined the Philadelphia 76ers , where he stayed for one season. After several positions outside the USA (including Puerto Rico and China ) and with teams in the G-League , Wilkins returned to the NBA in 2017 with his move to the Indiana Pacers after four years.
