Dan Berindei

Dan Berindei (born November 3, 1923 in Bucharest ) is a Romanian historian and publicist .

Life

Berindei studied history and philosophy at the University of Bucharest . After graduating in 1945, he was a research assistant at various research institutes from 1946 to 1990. In 1969 he received his doctorate in history with a thesis on the history of Bucharest from 1459 to 1861. Berindei has been teaching at the Faculty of History of the University of Bucharest since his retirement in 1990. Two years later he became a member of the Romanian Academy , its vice-president he has been since 2006. In 1996 he became president of the National Committee of Historians. Berindei has published over 50 books and 500 academic papers. Since 1994 he has been a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts in Salzburg , and since 1996 a foreign member of the Kraków Academy PAU . He has been a member of the Southeastern Europe Society in Munich since 1988.
