Daniel Friderici
Daniel Friderici (* 1584 in Kleineichstädt ; † September 23, 1638 in Rostock ) was a German cantor , conductor and composer.
life and work
Friderici came from a poor background and had to earn his living as a caroled singer and choirboy at a young age . He was trained by Valentin Haussmann and Friedrich Weißensee . In 1612 he enrolled at the University of Rostock , but two years later he was appointed cantor by Count Anton Günther in Oldenburg and in 1618 moved to the same position at the Marienkirche in Rostock . After he had finished his training there, he was appointed Kapellmeister of all Rostock churches. He worked there until he died of the plague in 1638 .
He created quite a lot of secular and sacred polyphonic vocal music of high quality, which was widely used during his lifetime and afterwards. With the Musica figuralis Friderici wrote an extensive practical singing lesson. In 1625 he published an expanded new edition of the Piae cantiones .
