Daniel Mönchmeier (also: Monchmeier, Munchmeier, Münchmeier; born November 27, 1582 in Groß Salze,June 6, 1635 in Braunschweig ) was a German educator and Protestant theologian .

Life

Daniel was the fourth of ten children of the pastor in Gross Salze Johannes Mönchmeier and his wife Susanna Pensold, the daughter of the pastor in Brehna Johannes Pensold (also: Bentzold; * 1517 in Weida; † 1585 in Brehna). He had initially attended school in his hometown. In 1598 he moved to the old town high school in Magdeburg, which was under the direction of Rector Georg Rollenhagen .

In 1599 he began studying at the University of Wittenberg , where he acquired the academic degree of a master's degree on September 24, 1605 . After holding private lectures in Wittenberg for some time, he became rector of Groß-Salze in November 1607 and worked as such in Wernigerode in 1610 . In 1612 he went to Heringen / Helme as archdeacon , was pastor and superintendent in Frankenhausen in 1616 , coadjutor in Braunschweig in 1621 and, after the death of Magister Johannes Wagner, superintendent in Braunschweig in 1623 . His body was buried on June 10th in Braunschweig's St. Martinikirche.

family

Mönchemeier was married twice. He concluded his first marriage on May 30, 1608 with Elisabeth (born August 30, 1583 in Torgau; † September 7, 1626 in Braunschweig, Pest), the daughter of the Torgau merchant Valentin Wustmann and his wife Anna Weisse. The marriage resulted in four sons and three daughters, with three sons and a daughter dying before the father. We know of these children: Johannes Mönchmeier (studied in Wittenberg; † before father); Samuel Mönchemeier (studied in Wittenberg), Elisabeth Mönchemeier, Susanna Mönchemeier.

He concluded his second marriage on January 27, 1629 with Euphrosina, the daughter of the doctor of theology and cathedral preacher at the Hohen Stift in Magdeburg Philipp Hahn (born May 1, 1558 in Halle; † July 16, 1616 in Magdeburg) and his wife Barbara, the daughter of the assessor at the Schöppenstuhl in Halle Caspar Ludewig. There was a daughter from the marriage. After Mönchemeier's death, his widow married Tobias Olfen, the chamberlain and patrician in Braunschweig, on December 5, 1637 .
