Daniel Reuss

Daniel Reuss (* 1961 ) is a German-Dutch choir conductor.

Live and act

Reuss was born in the Netherlands to German parents and studied choral conducting with Barend Schuurman at the Rotterdam Conservatory .

In 1982 he founded the Oude Muziek Koor Arnhem , which he built up into one of the most respected amateur choirs in the Netherlands. From 1990 he was artistic director of the Cappella Amsterdam . He also worked with the Schönberg Ensemble , the 18th century orchestra , the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra , the Radio Kamerorkest , Concerto Palatino and the Cappella Amsterdam .

From 1995 to 2000 Reuss was head of the choral conducting department at the Amsterdam Academy of Music. As a conductor he worked with the Dutch Radio Choir , the Collegium Vocale Gent , the Balthasar Neumann Choir and the SWR Vokalensemble Stuttgart , but also with chamber orchestras such as the Prometheus Ensemble and the Norwegian Symphony Orchestra in Stavanger. From 2003 to 2006 he was chief conductor of the RIAS Chamber Choir in Berlin.

Reuss received the Edison Award for his CD with works by Robert Heppener with the Dutch Chamber Choir . A CD with works by Frank Martin and Olivier Messiaen received the Diapason d'or de l'année 2004 and the German Record Critics' Prize .

In 2006 Reuss was a guest of the Lucerne Festival Academy as a conductor and lecturer . In 2007 he made his debut at the English National Opera with Handel's Agrippina . Since the 2008/09 season he has been chief conductor of the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir.
