Daniel Woge (* 1717 in Berlin ; † December 6, 1797 in Neustrelitz ) was a German painter and draftsman.

Life

Woge was a student of Antoine Pesne . In 1752, Duke Adolf Friedrich IV of Mecklenburg-Strelitz appointed him his court painter in Neustrelitz. Here he stayed until the end of his life. He worked primarily as a portrait painter for the ducal family, but also painted altar panels (for example for the Nikolaikirche in Friedland) and made preliminary drawings for copperplate engravings . His portraits hung in all major museums in Mecklenburg, but also in the portrait collection of Gripsholm Castle in Sweden.

Commissioned by Hereditary Prince Carl, he painted a series of pictures of the Prillwitz idols in oil in 1770 and, together with Andreas Gottlieb Masch, published The Religious Antiquities of the Obotrites from the Temple of Rhetra on Lake Tollenzer in 1771 ; therein copper engravings based on his originals by Johann Conrad Krüger.
