Danmarkshavn is a weather station in Northeast Greenland National Park in Greenland . It was built in 1948.

Eight people are permanently employed in the weather station . Danmarkshavn is the northernmost station on the east coast of Greenland that can be reached by non-icebreaking ships. The station's basic supply is provided every second year in August by a cargo ship. Danmarkshavn has a short runway ( ICAO : BGDH).

history

Danmarkshavn was the base station of the Danmark Expedition, which in 1907, under the direction of Ludvig Mylius-Erichsen, clarified the course of the last as yet unknown stretch of coast in northeast Greenland. On July 7, 1912, Johan Peter Koch and Alfred Wegener started here with two comrades on a Greenland crossing with the first winter on the Greenland ice sheet .
