The airport Nerlerit Inaat [ nɜɬːɜʁitˢʰ inåt ] ( IATA code: CNP , ICAO code : bgco ) is an international airport in the east of Greenland .

location

Nerlerit Inaat ( Tunumiisut Nertiit Iaat ) is located in Jamesonland , 38 km northwest of Ittoqqortoormiit , but separated from it by the Hurry Inlet (Kangersaajiva). Directly to the north is a large river delta that belongs to the Nertiit Iaala Ilinnerala Aqqulaa (Gåseelv). Itterajivit is 34 km to the southeast , a place that has been deserted since 2005. This makes Nerlerit Inaat, also because there are no roads leading away from it, one of the loneliest airports in the world, in the immediate vicinity of which there are no people.

history

Nerlerit Inaat 1985 American US from the oil company was Atlantic Richfield Company built. Presumably, however, no worthwhile oil deposits were found in the area, as the airport was sold to the government in 1990 and has since been operated as a civilian.

Airlines and Destinations

In the past, the airport was sometimes served by Air Greenland , which offered flights with De Havilland DHC- 8-200 to Kangerlussuaq , Kulusuk , Nuuk . Air Greenland also flies to Ittoqqortoormiit with a Bell 212 helicopter . Norlandair flies to Akureyri or Reykjavík twice a week .
