The Qaanaaq Airport ( IATA code : NAQ , ICAO: BGQQ ) is an airport that located 3.5 kilometers northwest of Qaanaaq on Greenland is. Qaanaaq is a village in the Avannaata Kommunia in the north of the island. The airport was built in 1991 because Thule Air Base does not allow passenger traffic.
Qaanaaq Airport is the only public airport north of Upernavik and serves as a transport and freight route for the residents of the northern part of Greenland.

Transit via Pituffik (Thule Air Base)
Passengers who fly to or from Qaanaaq via Pituffik (Thule Air Base) must always have a valid transit permit with them, regardless of the length of stay. A permit is required for stays of more than 24 hours.
Travelers without the required permission will be turned away at check-in . Danish citizens residing in Greenland can apply for the required permit from the Imperial Ombudsman in Greenland in Nuuk. Citizens residing in Denmark or another country can apply to the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Copenhagen.
Exceptions apply to citizens with a registered address in the former Qaanaaq community or members of the NATO armed forces and their families.
