Dante Luciani (musician)

Dante Luciani (* around 1955 in Philadelphia ) is an American jazz trombonist and university professor .

Live and act

Luciani was active in the American jazz scene from the 1970s; first recordings were made in 1977 in New York City with Arturo Sandoval ( Rumba Palace ). In the following years he worked in the orchestras and ensembles of Maynard Ferguson , Woody Herman , Melton Mustafa and with Richie Cole & the Alto Madness Orchestra. He was also a member of the Miami University Concert Jazz Band, the South Florida Jazz Orchestra ( SFJO Presents a Trumpet Summit (2012), with Wayne Bergeron , Brian Lynch , Greg Gisbert , Alex Norris ) and The Fourteen Jazz Orchestra, conducted by Dan Bonsanti on. Around 2011 he recorded the album Black Monolith (SJ Records) with Michał Wierba and Piotr Schmidt .

Luciani has also worked with the Naples Jazz Philharmonic and in Ira Sullivan's Inter-Outer Continental Quintet. In the course of his career he has also played with the Dizzy Gillespie All Star Big Band, Slide Hampton , Michael Brecker , Bob Mintzer , Nat Adderley , James Moody , Mickey Roker , Shirley Scott , Dr. Lonnie Smith , Elvis Costello , Paul Anka , Frank Sinatra , Frank Sinatra Jr., and Gloria Estefan . He toured in Eastern Europe as a soloist with Janusz Szprot and his band Young at Heart . In the field of jazz he was involved in 17 recording sessions between 1977 and 2015, apart from the Geannten in Florida with Ed Calle's Mamblue Big Band , Jef Jordan, Jerry Van & the Big Band of the '90S , Christopher Jentsch, Paulette Dozier and Frank Derrick. Luciani is Professor of Jazz Studies and Jazz Trombone at Miami University .
