action

Two weeks before the planned wedding of the doctor Eva Perner to the teacher Christian Kern, Lydia Perner returns to her place of birth after 30 years from the USA. Without her family's knowledge, Eva made contact with her half-sister Lydia, whom she had never met before. It is said that Lydia became mentally ill at 14 and moved to the United States after attempting suicide and receiving psychiatric treatment. Eva made the contact because she was afraid of becoming mentally ill herself.

Lydia pours a glass of wine on Eva's fiancé Christian and leaves. The next morning she reports him to the police: she accuses him of raping her at the time. Christian denies everything and names an Interrail trip with Lydia's stepbrother Max as an alibi. Rumors circulate and Christian has to expect his suspension. Shortly thereafter, his body is found. It looks like a suicide, which is later confirmed by the autopsy requested by Eva.

Eva accuses Lydia of driving Christian to his death through her allegations. During a heated argument, she discovers the scar from a caesarean section. Her mother Karin explains to Eva that Lydia had been seduced by a summer visitor, who left her behind. Instead of confiding in the family, Lydia tried to take her own life. The embryo died as a result of the psychiatric drugs that were then prescribed to her and was removed with a caesarean section.

Her stepfather Hans Perner asks Lydia why she didn't say anything to him at the time: he would have believed her everything! But now he urges her to be considerate of Eva. For her silence, he offers her the transfer of the summer house and 200,000 euros in cash. Lydia doesn't want to take the money, but he stuffs it into her coat pocket. Lydia will later have it deposited with the police for Eva.

Her stepbrother Max still asserts that he was on a trip to Europe with Christian. Eva refuted this, however, with a flyer with an invitation to a Sturmfrei party by Max and Christian at the time. In order to finally achieve clarity, Eva demands a DNA comparison from Christian with Lydia's stillborn. Then Lydia reveals the truth to her: There was no stillbirth. Eva is their daughter. She is the child conceived by the rape. Her fiancé Christian was her biological father.

Shortly after each other, Lydia and Eva leave their home village. In one of the last shots, Hans Perner is sitting in the middle of the banknotes scattered on the floor: Eva also did not accept the hush money given to Lydia.

criticism

"Atmospherically dense (television) drama that skilfully alternates between family tragedy and psychological thriller."
