action

Shortly after his father visits him unannounced, Christoffer (Ulrich Thomsen) is torn from his happy and very successful life in Stockholm when he learns that his father has surprisingly committed suicide. Even at the funeral, his mother Annelise (Ghita Nørby) put massive pressure on him to return to Denmark to take over the management of the ailing family business.

Although he loves his Swedish wife very much and is a successful restaurant owner, he feels obliged to take over the management of the steel company for moral reasons. Christoffer's wife Maria (Lisa Werlinder) cannot understand his decision and reacts angry and frustrated. Eventually she accepts the decision to save their relationship and quits her job as an actress at the Royal Theater in Stockholm.

Rescuing the ailing company empire quickly eats up Christoffer the entire time. In addition, the company's economic situation forces him to make some unscrupulous and tactical decisions that drive a wedge into the family.

Maria is appalled by Christoffer's ruthless behavior, leaves him and returns to Stockholm in her artistic environment.

Everything that made up his previous life dies in Christoffer, he gets divorced and marries a status-fair woman who knows exactly how to behave in upper class circles. He becomes a pragmatic, rational corporate patriarch.

The film ended with a shot in Stockholm where he was sitting on a bench in front of his ex-wife's house just to be close to her.

criticism

Per Fly dips his film in the drab blue since the invention of color film. The characters exude a coldness, as if they had been covered with nitrogen and grab the viewer by the throat. But it is precisely this coldness that is also the reason why “Das Erbe” is distant and does not cause much concern. Although the actors' performances are consistently flawless and in the tradition of authentic cinema - starting with the credible metamorphosis of Ulrich Thomsen ( Das Fest ) and ending with Ghita Nørby's head of the family from Hell - the viewer has a hard time understanding certain decisions. "An ambitious socio-psychological drama and at the same time a disturbing character study that subversively formulates social criticism from the perspective of socially beneficiaries."
