The Nerve Bundle is an American comedy film directed by Melvin Frank from 1975. The screenplay was written by Neil Simon based on his play.

action

Mel Edison works for an advertising agency and lives with his wife Edna on the 14th floor of a house in Manhattan. He suffers from the daily annoyance of the noise that penetrates through the much too thin walls. He's also annoyed about the air conditioning, which is so cold you even freeze in bed, and if you open a window, you hear the noise of traffic and the smell of the street coming in. One day he loses his job and hides this from his wife. He secretly goes looking for a job, and only shortly afterwards when the apartment is robbed does Mel let the cat out of the bag. Edna then returns to her old job in a film company to take care of the two. Now Mel is alone all day. He becomes a nerve wreck and slowly begins to show manic behavior. Even the psychiatrist hired by Edna can no longer help Mel.

Famous small actors

Sylvester Stallone makes a brief appearance as a young man whom Mel mistakenly suspects as a pickpocket. F. Murray Abraham appears in one scene as a taxi driver. Character actor M. Emmet Walsh plays a small role as a porter.

criticism

The lexicon of international films ruled in 1995: “A macabre and vicious comedy that deals with the unnatural nature of modern life, its stress, its high-rise apartments with noise and stench, prefabricated food and negative neighborhood contacts. As a panic-driven man into a nervous breakdown, Jack Lemmon offers a tragicomic masterpiece. "
