Kathy Maguire is outraged: After 20 years as the zoo director , her father Kevin is dismissed without notice, and only because he disapproves of Commodore Parker having his animals, which he hunted on trips to Africa, nailed to the walls of the zoo as trophies. She beats up Parker's daughter when the Caesar, the lion of the zoo, makes her nervous and faces charges of assault . Kathy turns to attorney Andy Hale, who is running for the upcoming mayor election. He advertises his support for the lower classes and is particularly credible because he grew up in the city's orphanage .
Andy wanted to win his election campaign with Parker's support, but gets scruples when he realizes that if he wins, he will be nothing more than a puppet of Parker. When Kathy stands in front of him and accuses Parker of influencing the parking commission to kick her father out, he pricks up the ears. While visiting Kevin, he learns that Parker owns the land on which the zoo was built - but this has been covered up over time. Andy also gets to know other members of the family here: monkeys, llamas , camels and the tame lion Herman, who live on the Maguire property. On the drive home, the slightly chaotic and direct Kathy reveals to him that the two of them could possibly become a couple and they kiss for the first time. The next day, Andy Parker cancels his candidacy for mayor and goes on research into his property purchases. Kathy, on the other hand, feels guilty, as obviously her and her father's fate have made Andy give up his political ambitions. In Andy's absence she organizes the children of the orphanage, who start an offensive campaign for Andy.
After his return, Andy starts the election campaign in surprise, in which he now competes against the candidate Parker. Although popular with certain sections of the population, it soon becomes apparent that he will not win the campaign against Parker's husband. His research into the property acquisitions revealed that Parker illegally transacted them through bogus companies . He blackmailed Parker with his knowledge and surprisingly secures the public support of Parker and his people for everyone. Kathy's good friend Tim is a newspaper reporter and learns of Andy's blackmail. At the same time it becomes clear that Andy is now increasingly being guided by Parker in his decisions.
Andy gives Kathy an engagement ring , which she returns indignantly after learning of Andy's action through Tim. Andy goes back to his original promises and publicly breaks with Parker during a radio broadcast. He also announced that he would bring his machinations to court. The drive home will be exciting again for Andy, as the dangerous lion Caesar has broken out of the zoo. While the police, Kathy and Kevin are looking for the animal, Andy sees it on the side of the road and confuses the lion with the tame Herman. He lures the animal into his car and drives it towards the zoo. At the last second, Kathy and the police manage to convince Andy of the dangers of the lion and to lock the animal in a cage. Now Kathy, who heard Andy's radio speech and forgave him, and Andy can finally hug each other.
criticism
The film service rated Das Raubtier ist los as a "peppy comedy with the then dream couple Allyson / Powell - also married in real life - which does not meet all expectations, but is varied."
