action

In a village Lena lives with her despotic husband in a relationship of convenience: Johannes is the village pastor and Lena is his wife, who is always at his side. The murder of a girl causes unrest in the village, as a result of which Lena falls in love with the village mechanic Paul. The burgeoning, forbidden love leads her to hide Paul's connection to the murder.

background

The film is a production by students of the Baden-Württemberg Film Academy in Ludwigsburg as part of their studies and was made with an extremely low budget ( low-budget film ). The shooting took place in autumn 2001 at the original locations in Oberstenfeld - Prevorst . Unusual for a film production, it was shot in chronological order. The working title of the film was Faith, Love, Hope .

After its premiere at the Munich Film Festival in 2002, where the film was nominated for the German Film Award, it was invited to the Locarno International Film Festival competition that summer, where it won the main prize. It then continued to run at countless festivals and won a number of other prizes.

criticism

film-dienst 9/2004: The Kammerspiel draws its intensity more from gestures, postures and looks than from words. The characters, often reduced to mere catchwords for the protagonist, increasingly leave the impression of being present at a coolly calculated artifact without convincing liveliness.
