David Bernard Thompson

David Bernard Thompson (born May 29, 1923 in Philadelphia , † November 24, 2013 ) was Bishop of Charleston .

Life

David Bernard Thompson was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia on May 27, 1950 .

Pope John Paul II named him Coadjutor Bishop of Charleston on April 22, 1989 . The Apostolic Pro-Nuncio in the United States of America Pio Laghi consecrated him bishop on May 24 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Norbert Felix Gaughan , Bishop of Gary , and Eugene Antonio Marino SSJ , Archbishop of Atlanta .

On February 22, 1990, he succeeded Ernest Leo Unterkoefler as Bishop of Charleston. On July 12, 1999, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
