David Brown (born September 16, 1965 in Thunder Bay , Ontario ) is a retired Canadian ski jumper .

Career

Brown made his debut on February 21, 1981 on his home hill Big Thunder in Thunder Bay in the Ski Jumping World Cup , but clearly missed the points. Even at the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in 1982 in Murau , he lagged well behind the best. After he tried again several times unsuccessfully in the World Cup, he finished 28th at the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in 1983 in Kuopio .

At the start of the 1983/84 World Cup season , the World Cup circus stopped again in Thunder Bay. While Brown was knocked 41st off the normal hill during the competition, he jumped from the large hill to twelfth place on the second day of the competition. According to the FIS points system at that time , he won his first four World Cup points. In the 1983/84 Four Hills Tournament that took place shortly afterwards, however, he only jumped to the rear. At the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo , Brown jumped from the normal hill to 51st and from the large hill to 47th place. Since there was no team competition at the Olympic Games, it was held as part of the Nordic World Ski Championships in Engelberg in 1984 . Together with Horst Bulau , Steve Collins and Ron Richards , he took twelfth place. After further unsuccessful starts in the World Cup, Brown finished the season in 67th place overall.

The following season began again for Brown with an eleventh place on his home hill in Thunder Bay. It was the last time that he could win World Cup points. In the following Four Hills Tournament in 1984/85 , 23rd place was his best placement. He ended up in 42nd place in the overall tournament ranking. At the Nordic World Ski Championships 1985 in Seefeld , Brown jumped to 58th place. Since he did not start in the team competition, the Canadian representatives ended up in thirteenth and last place.

In the following years Brown tried again and again in the World Cup, but only found himself far outside the points. Even in the second-rate European Cup , he usually had a hard time, so that he only won two points in March 1986 in Örnsköldsvik when he was fourteenth. He ended his active ski jumping career with 66th place in the World Cup jumping in December 1986 in Thunder Bay.
