David Edgar (born May 19, 1987 in Kitchener , Ontario ) is a Canadian soccer player who is currently without a club.

career

Edgar took part in a tournament offered by Manchester United when he was nine . He knew how to convince and received an offer to move to the youth department of the club. However, he declined the offer and stayed in Canada. It wasn't until five years later that he accepted a move abroad and went to Newcastle United . From 2003 he played in the reserve team. On December 26, 2006, he made his Premier League debut against Bolton Wanderers . A week later he scored his first first division goal in a 2-2 draw against ManUtd on New Year's Day.

At the age of 16, he made his debut in Canada's U-20 team in 2003 and was nominated for the 2003 U20 World Cup . However, he was not used during the tournament. At the tournament two years later , he was back in the squad and this time played all three games, but retired early with the team as the bottom of the group. On May 19, 2006, he scored a goal in a 2-1 win against the Brazilian youth team. It was the first time a Canadian team had won against a Brazilian team at any level. At the 2007 U20 World Cup in his Canadian homeland, he played his third tournament at this level.

On June 6, 2011 he was nominated for the CONCACAF Gold Cup 2011 because Dejan Jakovic was injured in a test match.

Edgar is the son of the English football goalkeeper Eddie Edgar , who was also under contract with Newcastle United and played with Franz Beckenbauer at New York Cosmos .
