David Parry

David Parry (born March 23, 1949 in England ) is a British conductor .

biography

David Parry studied at Cambridge University and the Royal Academy of Music in London. He also learned from Sergiu Celibidache and began his career as an assistant to Sir John Pritchard . He worked at the Dortmund Opera and became director of Opera 80 in 1983 . He was also a guest conductor at Opera North . From 1987 he was freelance, in 1992 he became Music Director of the Almeida Opera . There he conducted numerous world premieres, including a. Terrible Mouth by Nigel Osborne (1992), The Man who strides the Wind by Kevin Volans (1993), The Nightingale and the Rose by Jelena Firsowa (1994) and Ion by Param Vir (2000).

David Parry has also directed several complete opera recordings, most of them for the English labels Opera Rara and Chandos . He is known as a specialist in the Italian operas by Donizetti , Rossini , Mercadante , Meyerbeer and Pacini . After the death of Patric Schmid , the label manager of Opera Rara, in November 2005, he became artistic director of this label together with Ludmilla Andrew .

He works with Bruce Ford , Jennifer Larmore , Nelly Miricioiu, Della Jones , Majella Cullagh and William Matteuzzi.
