David Wertman

David "Dave" Wertman (* 1. October 1952 in New York City ; † 14. December 2013 in Northampton , Massachusetts ) was an American jazz - bassist and composer .

Live and act

Wertman grew up in Queens and began to play jazz himself. During his career he worked a. a. with Earl Freeman ( Soundcraft '75 ), Billy Bang , Arthur Blythe , Marion Brown , Steve Reid , Dave Pike and Hilton Ruiz . Wertman led his own groups like the Sun Ensemble , for which he also composed, and recorded several albums under his own name. With Charlie Kohlhase and Lou Grassi he formed a trio that recorded the album North Country Pie (2002) for CIMP .

He also went on tour with big bands like Ray Anthony , Erskine Hawkins and Les Elgart as well as with Buddy Greco , The Four Freshmen , Barbara McNair , The Ink Spots , The Shirelles and The Drifters . In the field of jazz he was involved in 18 recording sessions between 1975 and 2013. Wertman died of cancer in December 2013 at the age of 61.
