Davide Riccardi (Archbishop)

Giovanni Maria Davide Eugenio Felice Riccardi (born August 22, 1833 in Biella , † May 20, 1897 in Turin ) was an Italian Roman Catholic clergyman and Archbishop of Turin .

Life

Davide Riccardi was the third of eight children of Conte Giambattista Riccardi and his wife Eugenia Bonino. He studied theology and canon law at the University of Turin , where he in 1854 to Dr. theol. and received his doctorate in 1856 as Doctor iuris utriusque . He was ordained a priest on May 17, 1856 . He became canon of the cathedral and vicar general of the diocese of Biella . From 1855 to 1878 he was also a lecturer at the local seminary .

Pope Leo XIII. appointed him on July 15, 1878 Bishop of Ivrea . He was ordained episcopate on August 15th of the same year in Biella Basilio Leto , the Bishop of Biella.

On October 14, 1886, Davide Riccardi was made Bishop of Novara and on December 14, 1891 he was made Archbishop of Turin. He died shortly before his elevation to the cardinal estate .
