action
The deadline for finalizing Alice Evans' script is getting closer. Despite her mental instability, she retires alone to an old Victorian house that her publisher recently bought. Her friend Rebecca doesn't like to leave her there alone. Alice begins to hear strange noises and comes across a box full of videotapes. On these, David documents the story of his wife Lucy and the upcoming birth of their child. However, David becomes increasingly jealous and aggressive. Alice's own psychosis and Lucy's fear begin to mix. Alice is caught up in the question of what happened to Lucy, but the crucial bond is missing. She finally finds it in a camcorder in the attic. David killed Lucy and buried her body in the garden. He then judged himself, but his mother found him just in time trying to hang himself. David seems to be actually still in the house. Past and present begin to mix, because David now thinks Alice is Lucy and tries to drown her in the bathtub. Lucy's ghost comes to her aid and kills David. Rebecca shows up at the house and finds Alice in the bathtub. But she does not see David's body or the destruction in the house. She only finds the finished manuscript with the title: Deadline.
In the last scene, Rebecca finds the camera and plays a video contained on it, which shows Alice filming her sleeping, as David did with Lucy.
Reviews
"Aside from the sad theater, McConville's directorial debut turns out to be a delicately staged haunted house variant. [...] In return," Deadline "unfolds a true haunted house atmosphere thanks to the billowing drone soundtrack, ghostly illumination and tactfully explored space."
"Atmospheric horror thriller, atmospherically arranged without too coarse bloodshed in a Victorian ambience with the active participation of well-known young actresses. [...] Brittany Murphy (" 8 Mile ") and Thora Birch (" American Beauty ") have few scenes with each other, but they both have an effect on Don't miss the end user. "

- On the original film cover, Brittany Murphy posed dead in the bathtub. When she died in December 2009, the US distributor Redbox pulled the cover out of circulation and made headlines with it.
