Dean Kolstad (born June 16, 1968 in Edmonton , Alberta ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player . During his career he played for the Minnesota North Stars and San Jose Sharks in the National Hockey League .
Career
Kolstad first played for two years from 1983 to 1985 in the British Columbia Hockey League with the Langley Eagles. After he was already partially accrued for the New Westminster Bruins during this time , he moved to the 1985/86 season in the Bruins squad, but was transferred to the Prince Albert Raiders during the season within the WHL . The defender played until the end of the 1987/88 season with the Raiders and went to the 1988/89 season in the NHL with the Minnesota North Stars , who had selected him in the second round of the 1986 NHL Entry Draft in 33rd position.
In the three seasons, the North Stars used him mainly in the International Hockey League with the Kalamazoo Wings . He played only 30 NHL games for Minnesota during this time. Due to the NHL Dispersal Draft 1991 Kolstad moved to the newly founded San Jose Sharks , who also mostly used him in the farm team , the Kansas City Blades . With the blades he was able to win the Turner Cup of the IHL in the 1991/92 season , but in the NHL he came back to ten missions in the 1992/93 season . After the season Kolstad moved again and subsequently played in the American Hockey League , International Hockey League and Western Professional Hockey League . In the summer of 1998 he ended his career.
