Deanne Bray

Deanne Bray-Kotsur (born May 14, 1971 in Canoga Park , California ) is an American actress . Bray was born almost deaf and communicates using American sign language and English. She became internationally known for her role as Sue Thomas in the TV series Sue Thomas: FBI .

Life

Bray was born in California and lived with her father near Los Angeles until she was 13 , then she moved to live with her mother in Seattle . Her parents did not speak any sign language.

Deanne Bray spent a lot of time with a neighboring family who were also deaf and there came into intensive contact with the deaf culture. After high school, she earned a bachelor's degree in biology from California State University in Northridge . At a festival for the deaf, which took place at her university, she took part in a dance group "Prism West" and was discovered. In 1993 she met her future husband, the also deaf actor and director Troy Kotsur, while acting. After a long friendship, they married in 2001 and their daughter Kyra Monique was born on September 8, 2005. Today she lives with her family in North Hollywood, a district of Los Angeles. Bray and her husband are very committed to the deaf by organizing and supporting many events and projects for the deaf.

Among other things, they are members of KODAWest ( Kids of Deaf Adults ). While filming Sue Thomas FBEye, Deanne Bray worked as a math and science teacher for deaf and hard of hearing high school students. She also founded the "Little Bookworm Club" for these students to bring them closer to literature. She herself is of the opinion that education is crucial in life, just as she herself experienced through participating in various learning and support programs.

Act

In 1996 she made her first television roles in Pretender and Diagnose: Mord (1997). At the same time she was very active in the hearing loss theater.

Her breakthrough as an actress came with the lead role in Sue Thomas: FBI (2002), a series about a real deaf FBI agent. The real Sue Thomas counts Bray as one of her role models. The crime series ran for three seasons. After her pregnancy, she returned for roles in Criminal Intent (2007), Dummy Hoy: A Deaf Hero (2007) and The L Word (2007-2008). In 2009, Bray took on a bigger role in the fourth season of Heroes . Sometimes she played together with her husband Troy in some series.

During her work in film and television production, she also appeared in several plays. For example in My Sister in This Hous , Big River , Road to Revolution , all performed at the Deaf West Theater.
