Deidesheimer Grainhübel

Grainhübel is the name of a vineyard located northwest of the small Palatinate town of Deidesheim ( Rhineland-Palatinate ). It covers an area of ​​5.3 hectares .

Location, climate, soils

The Grainhübel belongs to the Palatinate cultivation area and here again to the Mittelhaardt-Deutsche Weinstrasse area. It is a single site that is part of the Forster Mariengarten large site . The Grainhübel is at an altitude of about 117 to 150  m above sea level. Above sea level and is 40% steep, 50% sloping and 10% flat.

The soils of the Grainhübels consist of loam , loamy sand and in places of marly clay . The Haardt mountain range protects the Grainhübel from precipitation on its leeward side , and the slope of the slope means that on frosty spring nights, cold air can flow down to the Rhine plain and the vines usually do not freeze.

Surname

The first mention of the name was in 1412 ("on the gryne"). Grain layer names are an old name for soil with gravel, small stones or loamy sand. The name, Middle High German "grien", can also be found in Hainfeld , Maikammer and Hambach on the Weinstrasse .
