The Deidesheimer Hütte , also known as the Waldschenke , is a refuge of the Palatinate Forest Association . It is located in the Palatinate Forest on the boundary of the Palatinate country town of Deidesheim . The hut houses a restaurant and does not offer overnight accommodation.

history

Waldschenke around 1910

The refuge was built in 1907 by Kurt Gießen, at that time it was called "Waldschenke". In the warm season it was cultivated. Gießen gave the hut to the Deidesheim local group of the Palatinate Forest Association in the 1920s. It was expanded in 1958 and 1963/64. Since a further expansion in 1986, the hut has had its present form.

Next to the hut is a memorial stone that was erected in 2006 and commemorates the 100th anniversary of the Deidesheim local branch of the Palatinate Forest Association.

Access and walks

The Deidesheimer Hütte is located in the Mühltal of the Palatinate Forest, about 800 m from the Mühltal hiking car park and about 1.5 km west of the development boundary of the city of Deidesheim. The hut is easily accessible via an unpaved forest path. It lies at an altitude of 225  m . The Weinbach flows past a few meters east of the hut .

Nearby hiking destinations in the Palatinate Forest are the Waldberg , on which there is a restaurant and the gymnastics memorial , as well as the corner head with the corner head tower ; one of the paths that can be taken there from the Deidesheimer Hut leads past the natural monuments Grimmeisenbrunnen and Weinbachspring . Also nearby is the Stabenberg with a small observation tower and the Kirchberg with the Heidenlöchern and the Michaelskapelle .

The Deidesheimer Hütte is located on the "Geißbockweg", a historic hiking trail. Every year on Whit Tuesday in Lambrecht, a large number of hikers make their way to Deidesheim as part of the billy goat auction to accompany a bride and groom who, according to an old custom , has to deliver a billy goat there (which is driven nowadays for animal welfare reasons). The group stops briefly at the Deidesheimer Hütte and is greeted by a Deidesheimer dressed as a “prince-bishop's forest ranger” who is accompanied by some “city soldiers”, also in historical costumes.
