Denise Cronenberg

Denise Cronenberg (born October 1, 1938 in Toronto , † May 22, 2020 in Burlington , Ontario ) was a Canadian costume designer .

Life

After graduating from Ryerson Polytechnic University, Cronenberg was initially active as a ballet dancer and as such part of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet in the 1950s.

She is the sister of the famous Canadian director David Cronenberg and the mother of the director and screenwriter Aaron Woodley (* 1971) and the aunt of the assistant director Cassandra Cronenberg .

Denise Cronenberg created the costumes for twelve films by her brother David: Die Fliege (1986), Die Unzertrennlichen (1988), Naked Lunch - Nackter Rausch (1991), M. Butterfly (1993), Crash (1996), eXistenZ (1999) and Spider (2002), as well as A History of Violence (2005), Eastern Promises (2007), A Dangerous Method (2011), Cosmopolis (2012) and Maps to the Stars (2014).

Her oeuvre includes 40 film and television productions. She was nominated six times for the Genie Award , once for the Saturn Award .

Cronenberg died at the age of 81. She was the mother of three children.
