action

The young teacher Rebecca suddenly loses her husband Ben in an accident when he is run over while jogging in the morning. Her younger sister Lucy, her ex-stepmother Alberta and her best friend Sylvie support her in this crisis, although each of them struggles with their own problems: Lucy is afraid of never losing her virginity and has an anything but good relationship with it Alberta, with whom she argues constantly as she could never accept Alberta as a stepmother after the death of her mother. It bothers Lucy very much that "even after the divorce from my father she still tramples through my life". Alberta's bossy manner frightens everyone around her, especially Lucy, who tries to get closer to her again and again, although the young woman tries to avoid her. But basically Alberta has a good core and is very helpful. Among other things, she supports Rebecca's friend Sylvie in her attempt to save her unhappy marriage with her husband Paul. Sylvie, who is struggling with three children, finds less and less time for her husband. She feels that he is to blame for the situation in their marriage. But in the end she has to find out that she was the one who had always behaved dismissively.

On the occasion of Rebecca's birthday, Alberta hires a young painter to repaint the house. He has a dog named Valentino and a preference for painting in the moonlight. Rebecca bothers. But after a while, she develops an affection for him and eventually they spend a night together. After that, she feels terrible guilt and buries herself in her bedroom for several days in a row. When Lucy, Alberta and Sylvie stand by her in this situation, it turns out that Rebecca and Ben had an argument before Ben died about the fact that he wanted a child, but she didn't. She explains to the women that she was afraid of not being able to compete with Ben as a mother and that the child might have loved his father more than she did. At Sylvie's suggestion, the four women go to the cemetery and finally there, where there is finally a discussion and reconciliation between Lucy and Alberta. Ultimately, Rebecca also manages to break away from Ben and says goodbye to him with the words: "My dear, take care."

The drama Moonlight and Valentino is also often referred to as a "woman's film". The film is about grief, friendship, growing up and a new beginning. During a conversation between the four main characters, Rebecca's side comes up with the thesis that there are four different types of women: the widow, the single, the married and the divorced woman. However, this thesis is immediately refuted, because a woman should never be defined solely by her relationship with men.

criticism

The lexicon of the international film found: "In the approach, an impressive plea for family exchange in the event of a crisis, which, however, avoids any depth and talks the problems to death on a very naive level."

Award

Jon Bon Jovi received the Motion Picture Club's Premiere Performance Award.
