Dennis Keith Lillee MBE (born July 18, 1949 in Subiaco , Western Australia ) is a retired Australian cricketer . He is considered to be one of the best bowlers in the history of Australian cricket. In 1973 he was named one of the five Wisden Cricketers of the Year . In 2000 he was elected to the Australian Team of the Century by the Australian Cricket Board .
Career
Dennis Lillee took part in 70 test matches during his career for Australia , in which he achieved a total of 355 wickets . He had his first test run in 1971 against England in Adelaide. In a test against the team of the West Indies he scored his 310th Testwicket on December 27, 1981 , breaking the record held by Lance Gibbs . Dennis Lillee's last appearance in a test was in January 1984 in Sydney against Pakistan . He also played 63 One-Day International Cricket Matches (ODIs) for Australia, in which he scored a total of 103 wickets . This made him the first cricketer ever to score 100 wickets at ODIs. With the Australian team, Lillee also took part in two cricket world championships ( 1975 and 1983 ).
Honors and miscellaneous
Dennis Lillee was named Member of the Order of the British Empire in 1981 . In December 2009 he was inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame. Even after the end of his career, he remained connected to cricket. In 2004 he was elected President of the Western Australian Cricket Association.
