The Paclín Department is located in the center of the Catamarca Province in northwest Argentina and is one of the province's 16 administrative units.
It borders the province of Tucumán to the north, the departments of El Alto and Santa Rosa to the east, the department of Valle Viejo to the south and the departments of Fray Mamerto Esquiú and Ambato to the west .
The capital of the department is La Merced . It is located about 60 kilometers from the provincial capital San Fernando del Valle de Catamarca .
