The department of Ancasti is located in the south of the province of Catamarca in north-west Argentina and is one of the 16 administrative units of the province.

It is bordered to the north by the department of El Alto , to the east by the department of La Paz and to the west by the departments of Capayán and Valle Viejo .

The capital of the department is Ancasti of the same name .
