action

Bailiff Hans Plaschek dies when connecting the new washing machine from electric shock, and Elfriede Blenninger crashes washing windows from the second floor, literally at the feet of her aunt Walburga Hechenbichler and Resi Berghammer. At first everything looks like tragic household accidents, but inspectors Sabrina Lorenz and Benno Berghammer notice that there is a lot of money involved in both cases: Alfred Blenninger inherits 200,000 marks and Maria Plaschek expects 600,000 marks from her husband's life insurance. However, both have credible alibis for the period in question. But when Commissioner Lorenz wants to see with whom Maria Plaschek is celebrating her 40th birthday, it turns out that the widow has had a relationship with the electrician Kroll for half a year. He finally admits to have manipulated the fuse box, Maria secretly let him into the house at night. He was convicted of the fact that one week before Hans Plaschek's death he had booked a four-week cruise for himself and Maria. Mrs. Plaschek claims to have felt locked in by her husband.

Walburga Hechenbichler presented the inspectors with a letter with an attached will, according to which Elfriede Blenninger would accuse her husband if something should happen to her; and she appoints her aunt Walburga as sole heir. The document turns out to be a forgery that Felix Hechenbichler made on behalf of his dominant mother.

Alfred Blenninger becomes engaged to Viola Hainthaler and employs her as the new beneficiary of his life insurance. He leases an inn that he wants to renovate with the money his wife has inherited. He would like to appoint Gerhard Rödl from the station pub as managing director, supported by his assistant chef Heinz Sykora, known as “Burschi”, who does everything his boss asks him to do.

Viola Hainthaler makes no secret of Berghammer and Lorenz that she benefits from her engagement to Alfred. At first she was rather embarrassed because Alfred was married to her work colleague, but her friend Gerhard Rödl said she shouldn't refuse Alfred, he now had a lot of money. Rödl has been her boyfriend since she was 13 years old; she will never love another. He was also not jealous of her relationship with Alfred, he was over it. She shows them the policy of Alfred's life insurance, after which they will receive a million marks for accidental death. Now the commissioners have the motif they are looking for crystal clear.

According to Viola Hainthaler, Alfred Blenninger is drunk in Gerhard Rödl's station bar. There the inspectors learn from the landlord that Burschi and Alfred are driving the car to the Benediktenwand - on the old road, because of its scenic beauty. Berghammer and Lorenz rush behind and find the car on the dump over a precipice. They free the inmates from their predicament and learn from the shocked boy that the driver's door is stuck because it has been manipulated. Since Gerhard Rödl obviously wanted to get rid of both of them, Burschi tells the inspectors about the perfidious plan according to which he should let the drunk and sleeping Alfred Blenninger fall into this abyss while he himself gets out at the last moment. For this he should receive a third of the life insurance sum from Rödl, plus the promised 20,000 marks for Elfriede Blenninger's lintel.
