The Man in the Moon is a 1991 American drama film directed by Robert Mulligan and starring Reese Witherspoon and Jason London . It was Robert Mulligan's last film as well as the first film and leading role for Reese Witherspoon.

The story takes place in rural Louisiana in the summer of 1957 and tells of a 14-year-old girl named Dani (Reese Witherspoon) who falls in love with a boy named Court Foster (Jason London) three years her senior. After developing a relationship between the two, Foster suddenly feels drawn to Danis' older sister, Maureen (Emily Warfield). Through strokes of fate, the sisters gather life experiences that help them to recognize how important family is to them.
