The Ring is a musical by Frank Nimsgern and Daniel Call , based on Richard Wagner's Nibelungenlied . The piece was premiered in Bonn in 2007 and has been shown in Saarbrücken (2008) since then. A new production came to Theater Hof in 2016 . In October 2018 it was shown in Ludwig's Festspielhaus in Füssen , where the piece could be seen again in autumn 2019.

An old myth, told anew and told today: The gods give people gold to test them and with it they plant greed in their hearts. In view of the wars that arise from envy and hatred, the gods withdraw treasures from people and sink them into the depths of the Rhine, guarded by heavenly daughters. But it is possible the dwarf Alberich , the Rhine maidens to outwit and in the possession of the Rhinegold to arrive in power together with the legendary ring. He founds a reign of terror in Nibelheim , which in turn calls Wotan , the father of gods, onto the scene.
