action

In Vienna in the 1930s, Dr. Sigmund Freud gained an international reputation as a psychoanalyst. One night he is visited by a mysterious count who asks for help. Count Geza Von Kösznöm is now in therapy with Freud in numerous sessions. He is depressed and tired of his undead life. His wife, Countess Elsa, also complains that she cannot admire herself in the mirror. In order to remedy this, at least here, Freud found his assistant Viktor, who is supposed to make a portrait of Elsa.

When Count Geza meets his girlfriend Lucy in the painter's studio, he recognizes in her the reincarnation of his love, Nadilla, dating back centuries. He does everything in his power to win the young woman over, but the countess does not tolerate any competitor. There is a threat of a marriage crisis that will be fought down to the blood.

criticism

The film service judges that the comedy strikes "wonderfully absurd sparks from the clash between the 'normal' world and the vampire world [...]." The "harmonious combination of psychoanalysis and vampirism unfolds an illustrious game of identities and projections and tells a successful screwball comedy with rapid puns and clever twists". The "smart as well as comic film [...] shines in addition to consistently good acting performances, above all through the self-deprecating performance of the main actor".

Awards

The film won the audience award at the Fantasia Film Festival 2015 for best European, North or South American film. At the Austrian Film Prize 2016 , Karl Fischer received a nomination for best supporting actor.
