The Wolf in Sheep's Clothing is the second studio album by the German rapper DCVDNS . It was released on September 20, 2013 via the Distributionz label and distributed by Soulfood .

background

After DCVDNS had been on tour with the duo Die Atzen , later with the groups 257ers and Genetikk and finally with Kool Savas from September 2012 , the rapper announced his second studio album in mid-January, entitled Der Wolf im Schafspelz, for May 31, 2013 on. Two months after the announcement, the release date has been postponed to September 13, 2013. In a video message, DCVDNS justified the postponement by saying that he had considered recording the " best German rap album there is ". Since this was not clear to him beforehand, the publication would have to be postponed for a few months. On August 7, 2013, the cover of the album was presented. In addition, the release date has been postponed to September 20th. About a week before the album was released, DCVDNS announced the track list. The rappers Celo & Abdi , Morlockk Dilemma and Genetikk had already been announced as guest musicians in advance . Furthermore, it was claimed that the release date would be postponed to September 27, 2013. On September 20, the claim turned out to be a hoax.

In the first announcement of the album, the concept behind the title "The Wolf in Sheep's Clothing" was explained. DCVDNS portrayed itself in numerous “ songs and interviews ” as “people who wear glasses and are not dangerous ”. With this strategy he " snuck into the German hip-hop scene without any problems " in order to act out his aggressiveness.

Versions

The wolf in sheep's clothing appeared in three versions. In addition to the standard version consisting of 15 pieces, a premium edition was released that contains a second CD on which the bonus songs Dichter & Henker , Atelier and St. Inglebird Psyco as well as the instrumental versions of the pieces can be found. A limited box was also released. This includes the premium version of the album, a t-shirt, the rapper's autograph, stickers and a poster.

In mid-February 2013, the album's first video release was released with Der Wolf im Schafspelz . This was uploaded to the Internet video portal YouTube and removed from DCVDNS after 50,000 visits. At the beginning of August, the production of the piece Kein Gee followed . Furthermore, DCVDNS contributed a contribution to the street rotation video series on the website 16bars.de. The third video, Intro , was released in early September . One day after the album was released, a snippet appeared in which the pieces by Der Wolf in Schafspelz are presented in extracts . A video for the play Frankfurter Zoo with Celo & Abdi followed on October 6th . At the beginning of March 2014 the visual implementation to Do you still know? released. On the occasion of the third anniversary of Nate Dogg's death , the video for Nate Dogg actually wanted to sing the hook was released .

On May 2, 2013, DCVDNS appeared for the first time in the ProSieben show TV total . In the course of this he applied to take part in the music competition Bundesvision Song Contest initiated by Stefan Raab . At the end of September, the rapper presented his competition entry Actually, Nate Dogg totally wanted to sing the hook on TV . He represented the federal state of Saarland in the 2013 Bundesvision Song Contest . DCVDNS was able to take fifth place there.

The wolf in sheep's clothing entered the German album charts at number 12. In the second week, the album fell to number 25. In Austria, the album was also able to position itself at position 41 in the charts. Rank 72 was achieved in Switzerland.

The piece Actually Nate Dogg wanted to sing the hook and could reach number 70 in the German single charts.

criticism

Andreas Borcholte actually described Nate Dogg as one of the " best songs of the evening " as part of a review of the Bundesvision Song Contest 2013 on Spiegel Online . DCVDNS is characterized as a “ chubby-nerdy rapper ”. The rapper's contribution is “ old-school gangsta rap ”. Laut.de was also positive about the rapper's contribution to the music competition.
